Emotional intelligence in sports

Intelligence is the capacity of a mind to analyse and perform tasks. Intelligence Quotient varies in everybody . The average IQ of humans is 90-100 .

Emotional intelligence is the human capacity to have proficient behaviour towards task completion and goal achievement if they have a normal IQ and High Emotional quotient.
It is believed that EQ unlike IQ can be developed through practice.
Emotional intelligence is the capacity of humans to understand and use thier own emotions and also the capacity of humans to identify, understand, empathize and manuvour the emotions of others .
It is an intra & inter personal strength.

In context of Coaches and atheletes –
Coaches can –

  1. identify trainess emotional markers and behaviour patterns .
  2. Help trainees overcome Mental and emotional barriers
  3. Build competitive spirit, sportsmanship and motivation to achieve victory

High EI in Atheletes enables them to

  1. Identify emotions of self and others
  2. Raise self awareness
  3. Build confidence and overcome momentary fear or apprehension in field and before games .
  4. Strategize against opposing team/ athletes bu recognising their emotional triggers and markets
  5. Build resilience, empathy and sportsmanship which is essential to athletes.
